Guns were being fired in the background, down in the barracks, Tanks rolled near passing echidnas, there was no bird song in the distance and Zippa had never heard it. The purple echidna flicked her side fringe to the side and leaned on her hand, staring out at what she saw every day. The sky was orange and the buildings were dull greys, echidnas shouted to one another, most of the language was war related or just cursing. She sighed as the deep rumbling of tanks faded. Turning and facing the bed, she focused on a photograph of many legionnaires she used to speak to, now, well now they're too busy fighting impossible battles. "Why would there be so much conflict between the people of this world?" she asked herself. Lying down on her bed, she began to think of how much better Mobius would be if there were no wars, no talk of the 'destroyer', no talk of killing and no talk of cities being wiped out and erased from memories. "I wish I could be part of the famous freedom fighters, I can't just stroll out looking for them, I'd be caught" she told herself, she didn't say this aloud just in case her nosey, little sister was behind the door. Just as she was making shapes with the fire she had summoned, there was a slight creaking noise from behind her door. "Kiera" Zippa thought, she lifted herself up and opened the door to see twelve year old sister crouching at her feet, glass to her ear still in place as if a door was still there.
"Because you're not sly . . . what do you want?" Zippa asked rudely, she was rude to her sister because she knew that if she was kind to her sister, she'd be picked on for the rest of her life, she also hated her sister anyway. "Daddy needs to see you right away, no questions about it, he's in Dimitri's office and who were you talking to hmmm?" Kiera questioned with a creepy tone to her voice. Zippa rolled her eyes, stepped over her pink sister and said that she was only thinking out loud and left the corridor.
Zippa walked down the grey, metal corridors, passing hooded echidnas all holding different weapons. She didn't like it, it made her sick that they could carry a gun round as if it was a everyday accessory like some kind of bag. As she took a left she could here an argument from down the end of the corridor she was headed, she sighed and saw it was a couple of boys roughing it up. One of the echidnas turned and wolf whistled as she passed, she turned quickly and threw a dirty look at him, forcing him silent.
Lights began to flicker on and off as she walked down towards Dimitri's office.
As she walked closer she heard the deep voices of some legionnaires. "Must be a meeting" she thought to herself. Nearing the door she recognised the voices belonged to Kragok, Dimitri and her father, there was another echidna but he wasn't saying much. She knelt down beside the door, making sure she couldn't be seen; she hadn't caught the beginning of the conversation but she listened anyway. " . . . And what of your platoon Grandmaster Kragok?" Dimitri asked, "Fine, they are just preparing to leave" the Grandmaster replied. Dimitri continued rambling about the little war down south, making Zippa frown slightly, she was about to stand and enter when she heard Dimitri ask her father a question, she did not catch it but she continued to listen.
"I'll start it ASAP Sir, she'll have all the training she needs to do the deeds
" her father began, behind the door, Zippa pulled an intrigued look, getting closer to the crack in the door. "Will my desire come true?" Dimitri asked with a little excitement in his tone of voice. "It will, she will become 'The Destroyer" Zathe bowed. Bursting through the door Zippa glared at her father, looking straight through him, a look she did extremely well. "The Destroyer?! We have enough battles raging across Mobius as it is and now you want to create a monster . . ." "SILENCE!" screamed Dimitri, Zippa suddenly look innocent and vulnerable, stepping back into the door way, like a coward. There was an awkward silence until Zathe exchanged looks with Dimitri. Zathe grabbed his daughter and dragged her out the room, slamming the heavy door behind him. He grabbed the back of her coat and began to push her in the direction of the balcony.
Zippa collided with the railings of the balcony as Zathe closed the door. He turned and gave her a sharp look with his cybernetic eye. Zippa lowered her head, wishing she had never burst in like that, what the hell was she thinking, did she forget who she was dealing with?
"How DARE you!" Zathe yelled so loud a legionnaire bellow them jumped. "I . . . I'm sorry Da . . ." Zippa didn't finish her sentence instead she let out a little scream as she felt her father's hand hit her. "You WILL learn to do me proud" he stated and with that, he left her alone.
It was only a few minutes later that Zippa decided to run off, she took a little route where there were hardly any CCTV cameras, crawled under a fence and sprinted down the path. Zippa was running out of breath when she heard she was being followed by Dark Legion guards, she picked herself up and ran faster, breathing heavily as they began to catch up. She swiftly turned and stood behind a tree, she saw them turning into her direction and she set off again. She was fast but her stamina was bad, she was slowing down, running out of breath and they were closing in. Just as she thought she might as well stop she tripped, but she never hit the ground, she fell and she continued to fall down a hole.
Landing on to a hard floor she noticed she was not being followed, not search lights were shining down the hole either. Zippa looked round at where she was, it was gloomy, the walls were dirt with tree and plant roots winding round small wooden beams. There seemed to be a clearing further on ahead of her; she began to crawl closer to the light, there was a warm breeze that met her face as she got nearer. There was chatter from inside the room.
Zippa climbed out from the hole and into a warm, orange room. She massaged her bruised face and took a step forward. "I heard voices . . . so where are the people?" she pondered. Another step forward and a gun was suddenly pointed to her head. She froze with fear.
"Dark Legion, what do you want? How did you find us? Who are you?" asked the gun holder. . .
